What Questions Should You Ask Your Roofer’s References?

With all the roofing companies out there, it’s hard to tell which one offers the best solutions for your home. However, research and contractor references can help you make the right choice.

To reveal the real character of your prospective roofing contractor, make sure you ask their references these questions.

Previous Clients

Ask your prospective contractor for at least three references from the last five years. Find out if the customers were satisfied with the company’s service and whether they exceeded their budget. Ask if the contractor and their subcontractors were professional and punctual. Lastly, ask if they would hire the company again in the future. Keep in mind that reputable contractors have nothing to hide and are honest about why some projects didn’t turn out as expected.

Suppliers

Roofing companies often work with different manufacturers. Request three references from your potential contractor’s long-time material suppliers. The financial solvency of your contractor is important. You can get a lien on your property if they don’t pay the bill. Worse, you may have to pay the bill yourself. Ask the suppliers how long they have been working with the company and whether they pay their bills on time.

Importance of License & Insurance

Make sure that the contractor you’re hiring has a valid license and insurance. Insurance will protect you in case something goes wrong with your project or home. You can check the validity of your contractor’s license and insurance through your state’s contractor licensing board. Licensing boards usually require a contractor to provide up-to-date insurance documents.
